WELCOME TO LEFKADA

Lefkada is the forth biggest island in Ionian sea and it is very close to Etoloakarnania aera, with which it said it was combined in ancient times. Today it’s separated from the main land of Greece through the Strait of Drepanos ( a 20 meters floating bridge).

The capital of Lefkada island is the city of Lefkada. 20 kilometers away of the city is the Aktio national airport, with direct flights from and to many countries of Europe. It is the only island with on rod access. The population of the island is about 22,900 and the size is 302,5 square kilometers.

The whole island is a natural attraction, with many villages on the coasts but also on the mountains. On the mountains, live and develop many rare plants, birds and animals. Also you can find many caves, waterfalls and springs.

Lefkada has many of the most beautiful beaches, not only in Greece but in whole Mediterranean sea, like the famous Porto Katsiki. Moreover, the island is well known for the embroidery and the wovens that the women are made, especially in the village of Karia. Finally, Lefkadish cousine has a lot of traditional plates, like mpourdeto, cod bianko and many pies.

On the west coast of the island, the famous Porto Katsiki Beach is occasionally voted by international tourist magazines as the most beautiful beach in the Mediterranean. The island is also famous for the famous embroidery and woven fabrics made by women mainly in the Karya region. Traditional dishes of Lefkian cuisine are bourdéto, bianco cod, maripoda, bryndale, and various pies.
